Video: Jovi ‘Don 4 Kwat’ + ‘Pitie’

The twisted mbira synth beat on ”Don 4 Kwat” is easily the nicest we’ve heard in a minute — that bounce, those subtle West Coast synths! The joint is from Cameroonian pidgin rapper Jovi‘s upcoming H.I.V. (Humanity Is Vanishing) LP. Watch the smoky visuals for it above and see his new Tabu Ley Rochereau-sampling clip for “Pitié” below. Look out for the album dropping on Mumak Records.

  Honestly, I have been on multiple forums and noticed that the same haters post the same hate posts about Jovi’s work. These people seem to have so much background info about Jovi’s work and I am sure these people were very close to him at some time till when the his songs started getting popular. That is the only explanation I can give to someone who capitalizes on petty details to discredit an artist that is clearly loved and admired by many people including me of course.
  Yes Jovi samples other artist. Guest what; Jay-z, Kanye, Eminem and Lil Wayne also use sampled beats.
  Yes Red Cafe raps about being the hardest nigga in the Hood but every rapper does that in every album.
  We don’t know Red Cafe in Bonaberi and we don’t care or understand what he raps about. We love Jovi’s unique beats and the his punch lines which represent the neighbourhood and society where most of us come from.
  The type of originality people demand from Jovi can only be found at an opera.

Hahahahaha Jovi? I AM FROM CAMEROON Jovi’s making a name on other people music. I AM NOT PROUD OF THIS. He copied Red Cafe, down to the name of the song. THAT’S CALLED COPYING! I am for the progress of music not copying. It gives us Cameroonian artists a bad name if our so-called hits are COPIED. I just heard Pitie, ITS A COPY, NO INSPIRATION, we are not bringing anything to the song except bad rap. The song was great on its own. It didn’t need to be re invented and I’m sure Seigneur Rochereau has no idea the song exists, because if he did HE WOULD SUE JOVI. At least AKON paid P-Square for CHOP MA MONEY. JOVI just stole it and assumed that Cameroonians are stupid people who would not notice. So far i have heard nothing original from Jovi and I am waiting.

I agree with Don. OKAY AFRICA we respect you but do your research in Cameroon before posting COPIED Songs. JOVI is our NAtional Song Copying Machine. The Artists buying beats from these guys should be careful. You don’t want intellectual property problems. Jovi is good but still has no original stuff. I am not stupid. Don 4 kwat is not ebven an original title, Red Cafe talks of HARDEST NIGGA in The Hood, which is basically what DOn 4 Kwat means

They are in the same category of King Aluan who blatantly copied “allez les lions” They should give up that studio to guys that will bring out true Camair hip hop. Well i think Jovi is like Kanye, Micheal Jackson, Jay Z, 2Pac… all these guys have sampled songs or have redone old songs. well everyone has a right to an opinion. Jovi doesnt only have 2 songs and i have listen to them. what i dont get is this animosity, where is this passion driven hate coming from? Not surprised at all, what do you really expect from Cameroonians? How would we ever make it when we are this negative. Instead of looking for ways to collaborate or be “original” so the whole industry goes up, your sitting there with your miserable leave trying to bring others down to your level. Hip hop has been all about sampling from the beginning. You might as well say Kanye West isn’t original, because all of his songs are from samples. Jay-Z, Dre, Nas, Eminem, etc., they all sample, and they are all creative and amazing artists.

And really? You really think Don 4 Kwat sounds like “Hottest in da Hood?” Do you know how many rappers in the world rap about living in the hood, and you think he’s copying? Jovi is one of the most original artists and producers in Africa, let alone Cameroon. That fact that he raps in pidgin, has punchlines in pidgin, produces amazing tracks,and much more is something every Cameroonian should notice and be proud of. His album drops August 30. It’s gonna be epic.
