Last year, Ghana’s most unique mathafuckas FOKN Bois managed to offend an entire nation with their tongue-in-cheek jab “Thank God We’re Not A Nigerians.” They’ve since penned the world’s first pidgen musical Coz Ov Moni and shot a video for one of our hands-down favorite tracks “Brkn Lngwjz.”
Well, M3nsa and Wanlov are at it again with new album FOKN Wit Ewe. This time no one’s spared — track titles like “Strong Homosexual Guys,” “Laffin At Cripples,”Want To Be White,” and “Sexin Islamic Girls” give you a clue. FOKN Wit Ewe is up for FREE DOWNLOAD this week only. Stream and grab it below.
It’s been a great freshman year for us at Okayafrica. To culminate it, we’re highlighting our choice content from the past 12 months. Browse our top 11 music videos of 2011 below and stay tuned for top 11 LPs, songs, and side-eyes lists!
You already know how into “Broken Language” (apparent new title “Brkn Lngwjz”) we are. Wanlov and M3NSA finally release a clip for their undeniable pidgin rap stomper. In the Jay Hill-directed video, the FOKN Bois mug around Ghana streets to the backdrop of future-synths and rhymes that showcase why they’re the most unique mathafackas. Watch above.
M3NSA and Wanlov, better known as the FOKN Bois, have been steadily uploading clips of their (world’s first!) pidgen musical Coz Ov Moni to their youtube page. The premise:
Two gay lesbian friends in Accra wake up one ordinary morning. They have wild hot plans for the night…but first they must slap a crooked cripple for their money during the day.
If you haven’t caught it now’s your last chance, as the film will be taken down this Thursday. Watch a few select clips above/below and stream Coz Ov Moni in its entirety.
Wanlov and M3NSA are on the heels of releasing the “world’s first pidgen musical” in its entirety, which we’re keeping a close eye on. ‘Til the full thing’s out, the FOKN Bois hold us over with a (free!) remix of The FOKN Dunaquest In Budapest LP. The 10-track album features remixes by an array Global Bass Scene producers including Flore, Hijo De La Cumbia, Vadim and Frikstailers. Stream and grab it below, it’s only free for a month!
M3nsa and Wanlov‘s undeniable pidgin jam “Broken Language” is stripped of its syncopated future-synth beat in exchange for an upright bass and acoustic drum kit combo. Ghanaian DJ Juls achieves the near-impossible by crafting a sparse new rhythm to the FOKN Bois‘ acapella that doesn’t immediately make us want to throw on the original.
Grab DJ Juls’ free Blue Color Mixtape, which features this remake of the FOKN Bois’ joint and other interpolations of tracks by M.anifest, Yaa Pono, Nas, and Lil Wayne.

Ghana’s naughtiest sons, the F.O.K.N Bois, BRINNNNGGG IT with their new single “Thank God We’re Not A Nigerians” off the soon-to-be-released FOKN Wit Ewe. Recorded in advance of the Ghana vs. Nigeria “International Friendly” (the official match name, not ours) footie match (aka soccer, obvs) on August 9 – which takes place somewhere in England we’ve never heard of – they’re throwing down the (totally offensive) gauntlet (if you’re a Nigerians, that is). But apparently it’s even worse to be a Liberians (to Nigerians: “thank god you’re not a Liberians”).
Nigerians: what say you? Are you just gonna’ take that?! Listen:

Fokn Bois bounce to Budapest in search of Duna (bootay) and create The FOKN Duna Quest In Budapest- a hip-hop, dance, and afropop expansion sound. Produced by the Hungarian collective, Irie Maffia in conjunction with Akwaaba Music, Duna Quest has 9 tracks which have been made into a minimix for your listening pleasure. To purchase the entire release visit their Bandcamp here.
Ben Lebrave of Akwaaba Music leaked what really happened to the Bois via his blog- thanks for your insights Ben!
“After running around Accra because of money, the FOKN Bois left for Budapest, Hungry on a quest to find the finest Duna (arse). They were kidnapped by the infamous Irie Maffia, a notorious band of musicians, singers, songwriters, deejays, producers, rappers…and fed only palinka and bread in a hot studio in the nippy Buda hills close to Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s home.
In 5 days they were forced to do 4 gigs and record 8 tracks… It was sleepless hell… They managed to escape when the producer, Elo Marton, who was trying to water board more lyrics out of the exhausted FOKN Bois at a Turkish bath, absentmindedly gazed at singer/songwriter Sena’s duna as she sauntered by distractingly.
Now the tracks are out and sound so good that the FOKN Bois have forgiven Irie Maffia for the conditions by which this beautiful record came together. In their words: “We see demma Maffia side, but now everything be Irie.”
The FOKN Dunaquest in Budapest is a sonic hip-hop, dance, and afropop adventure from Budapest to Bucharest, Brenham to Boston and Bolgatanga to Bubuashie! Eastern Europe meets West Africa…apio meets palinka. Ha!!!
Fokn Bois takes two well respected hip-life heavyweights and reconfigures them into a force of nature. They’re like the Voltron with Ghanaian MCs. Individually M3NSA and Wanlov the Kubolor are outspoken, unapologetic, and outrageous rappers. Together they’re a lyrically audacious army of two. Their hilarious antics are on display in the 2010 Pidgen musical film Coz Ov Moni.
