SA/Canada’s Zaki Ibrahim delivers an undulating-bass tune for “Something In The Water,” the lead single off her upcoming Every Opposite LP. A myriad of Zaki’s soulful croons lay over the deep wobbles and minimalist beats, stellarly produced by Alister Johnson aka DJ Catalist. Stream it below!
Tyler Perry is remaking Ntozake Shange’s 1975 Obie Award-winning play, For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuf, cropping the title to a simple For Colored Girls. Consisting of an all-star cast such as Whoopi Goldberg, Kerry Washington, Thandie Newton, Loretta Devine, Janet Jackson and so many more, Tyler Perry creates a highly anticipated film showcasing a collection of 20 poems revealing different issues that impact women in general, and women of color in particular. While the cast of the film is mind-blowing, the soundtrack is even better, featuring artists such as Nina Simone, Estelle, Janelle Monàe, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, Lalah Hathaway and South African singer Zaki Ibrahim. Born in Vancouver, BC and raised between South Africa and Canada’s West Coast, Zaki Ibrahim’s world was a constant blending of cultural diversity, which reflects in her music, a unique mix of soul, hip hop, and electro-acoustic. Check out “Ansomnia,” her single on the soundtrack. Click more for the full tracklisting.
