Ringing in the New: 10 British Artists to Watch in 2013

If you don’t know Sampha then you haven’t been paying attention because his traces – production and vocal – are all over many of the best electronic music of the past couple of years. He’s the frequent collaborator of masked and vowel-less producer SBTRKT, and the one behind the minimal production of much of Jessie Ware‘s music, including her cover of ‘What You Won’t Do For Love’, a track whose perfection is only surpassed by her duet with Sampha on ‘Valentine’. He’s signed to Young Turks, but his EP has all but disappeared from the interwebs. Let’s hope it’s because something’s cooking so that we can stop pouring over old (but perfect) tracks like ‘Rainstars‘, ‘Indecision‘ and ‘If Only A Friend‘. His inclusion here springs from the hope that in 2013 he’ll drop as much genuine, gentle beauty on us as he did back in 2011.
