Video: Les Nubians Live at The Shrine in Chicago

As first seen on okayplayer, Cam Be and Jamaar J capture Les Nubians at The Shrine in Chicago discussing the meaning and purpose of their new album Nu Revolution, the power of dance – the relief, energy and action that the music has on stage. Mixed with live clips of their performance, it’s clear to see that Les Nubians still got it.

Les Nubians Take Their New Sound To The Stage

Hol’ up, hol’ up, so these chicks ain’t had an album out in 6 years, mainly sing in French (sometimes in English), no radio play since ’99, no videos in a hot minute or any other mainstream press and they just sold out a big auditorium Thursday in downtown Philly? Philly ain’t nothin’ but some haters, who are these chicks, ock?!

None other than the beautiful talented Les Nubians were chosen as “cultural ambassadors” for the Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts. PIFA’s theme for the year was the 100th anniversary of Paris’ cultural uprising in arts, music and politics (see ?uestlove Goes Classical for more on this) and who better than sisters Hélène and Célia Faussart of Les Nubians, with their French-African backgrounds (with roots in both Cameroon and Chad), messages of Nü Revolution, dreams, le femme mystique, poly-ethnic bandmates and Pan-Afropeanism to set it off.

Video: “Afrodance” by Les Nubians

First seen on okayplayer, Les Nubians release a new video of their song, “Afrodance,” which just came out on their new EP, Nu Revolution on Tuesday. Not to be confused with the usual afro-type music we feature on okayafrica, this song is all about celebrating actual afros…as in hair.

Video: Les Nubians – “Veuillez Veuillez Sur Vos Reves” + new album

Les Nubians are back with a new album, featuring “Veuillez Veiller Sur Vos Rêves” (Don’t Let Your Dreams Fall Asleep) and “Afrodance” (streaming below). The new album, Nü Revolution may be the most impressive representation of Les Nubians’ Afropean Soul to date. Featuring special guests ranging from African music legend Manu Dibango, whose “Soul Makossa” crossover classic gets a politically charged make-over, to indie soul icon Eric Roberson, with South African pop stars Freshly Ground, Ghanian-American MC Blitz The Ambassador and Polish MC John Banzaï along for the ride. Somehow, Les Nubians manage to make the blend of so many diverse elements seem logical and organic; it flows quite naturally from their multicultural lives.
