There’s a deluge of cool events happening across Africa and the diaspora this weekend and OkayAfrica’s weekend guide is where you’ll find them.


NEW YORK CITY—Healthy Eating & Active Lifestyle presents “Train, Taste and Teach,” a program to help you and dad stay healthy together, taking place this Saturday, June 17 on Amsterdam Ave in New York City. “Come out and experience effective exercises, learn the history of our traditional foods with hands on cooking demos and be prepared to teach within your community for optimal health, wellness and vitality.” reads the invite. BROOKLYN—Juneteenth is this upcoming Monday, and there are events happening across the diaspora to commemorate the holiday. Tea With Queen & J are hosting their second annual Juneteenth Kickback, this Saturday June 17. “To be Black is a revolutionary act, as is any holiday celebrating our Blackness, our personhood, our dopeness. WASHINGTON D.C.—”I Am Africa” portrait day, is the perfect family event to take part in ahead of Father’s Day. The arts and crafts program will take place at the Smithsonian Museum of African Art on Saturday, June 17. Register for the event, here.

NEW YORK CITY—On Sunday, you can meet South Africa’s first female winemaker, Ntsiki Biyela, and sample her wine. Wine Lovers of NYC will host an event with Biyela at the Pierre Loti Chelsea on June 18. You can purchase tickets to the event, here.
