Cape Town MCs call for collective hip-hop consciousness in the Mother City on the DJ Azuhl-led 'Follow Us Home.'
<p>The cult of the <a href="http://www.okayafrica.com/2013/06/04/south-africa-music-gravy-electronic-collective/" target="_blank">Cape Town beatmaking and electronic scene</a> has only continued to make <a href="http://www.okayafrica.com/2014/02/06/cape-town-electronic-music-festival-2014/" target="_blank">strides</a> in the new year. Cape Town hip-hop, in contrast, has seemed a bit less entity-like these days. Enter DJ/producer <strong>Ricardo Nunes</strong> (aka <strong><a href="https://soundcloud.com/dj-azuhl" target="_blank">DJ Azuhl</a></strong>), who's ringleading a call for collective hip-hop consciousness in the Mother City. One of his earliest measures is a <strong>Native Tongues</strong>-like gathering of emcees on "Follow Us Home." On the jazzily backed Mother City salute, Azuhl tapped Cape Town MCs <strong><a href="https://soundcloud.com/ben-caesar" target="_blank">Ben Caesar</a></strong>, <strong><a href="http://www.okayafrica.com/2013/08/08/cape-town-hip-hop-youngsta-freeze-time/" target="_blank">Youngsta</a></strong>, <strong><a href="http://www.okayafrica.com/okayafrica-artists/ill-skillz/" target="_blank">Ill Skillz</a></strong>, <strong><a href="http://www.reverbnation.com/jpmusiq" target="_blank">Jean Pierre</a></strong> and the soulfully piped <strong><a href="https://www.facebook.com/EJvonLYRIK" target="_blank">EJ Von Lyrik</a></strong> to call for more collaboration amongst their city's hip-hop community.
