June brings an exciting lineup of entertainment from across the African continent, offering everything from thrilling action to heartfelt romance and gripping reality TV. This month's selections feature international heist adventures from Egypt, feel-good startup romance from Tunisia, comedy capers from Kenya, murder mysteries from Nigeria, and dramatic reality series from South Africa. From Netflix originals to regional cinema releases, here's OkayAfrica's guide to the must-watch films and series lighting up screens across North, East, West, and Southern Africa this month.

North Africa — By Amuna Wagner

Project X (Egypt)

In Project X, written and directed by Peter Mimi, a brainy police officer (and Egyptologist), Youssef El Gamal (Karim Abdel Aziz), fights an international gang smuggling antiquities in several European countries. Between international espionage and ancient Egyptian history, his adventure takes him to Italy, Turkey, and El Salvador. In the Red Sea town of El Gouna, his path intersects with a young woman who is a diver and helps him master challenges. This film, enhanced by IMAX visuals, aims to be both a blockbuster and a historical mystery.

Jabali War (Egypt)

Set in a busy working-class neighborhood, this series follows the Jabali family's challenges and intrigue. Written by Samah Al-Hariri and starring Ahmed Rizk and Heba Magdy, it pulls viewers into a fierce conflict led by two opposing family members. The late Ashraf Abdel Ghafour makes a final appearance in one of his television roles, filmed before his passing, as Sheikh Mustafa al-Tayeb, a Sufi sheikh at the center of the plot.

Startup (Tunisia)

On Djerba, the island of dreams, Zina, a young woman determined to succeed in the startup business, crosses paths with Zakaria, a businessman visiting for the first time. The beautiful setting envelops their meeting with magic and romance, but Zakaria is a prisoner of his past. Startup is written and directed by Heiffel Ben Youssef and stars Nidhal Saadi and Fatma Bououn as the main characters.

East Africa — By Paula Adhis

‘Kampala Crème’ (Uganda)

Uganda's glitzy reality series Kampala Crème returns for its third season, bringing fresh drama and deeper storylines into the lives of Kampala's elite women. This season introduces three dynamic newcomers — entrepreneur and influencer Umrah Murungi, socialite Prima Nassozi, and outspoken businesswoman Sheena Holm — joining returning cast members Zahara Toto and Deborah Cleave. The expanded cast promises heightened tensions and unexpected alliances as old and new relationships intertwine.

'Inside Job' (Kenya)

Inside Job is a sharp new Kenyan comedy heist directed byTosh Gitonga (Nairobi Half Life, Disconnect) and starring Jacky Vike and Mammito Eunice as two cousins who break into a wealthy businessman's home to avenge their aunt's unfair dismissal. The film blends crime caper energy with Nairobi humor as Vike and Mammito, known for their work in comedy skits and TV, bring a dynamic chemistry to the screen. Gitonga's latest under his Primary Pictures banner, Inside Job, features a standout ensemble and was penned by Tanzanian screenwriterAngela Ruhinda, marking another East African Netflix milestone.

The Party - Nigeria

When a newlywed man dies at a party, the guests in attendance become suspects, setting off a wild, electrifying chase to find the murderer. The story uses flashbacks and thrilling plot devices to unspool a gripping, fascinating story. Initially slated to be a feature film, this three-part series tactfully explores the intersections of love, tradition, and self-absorption. The limited series stars Kehinde Bankole (Adire, Sistà, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, The Set Up), Kunle Remi (Anikulapo, Muri & Ko, Ijakumo), Mide Funmi Martins (Haunted Pleasures, Finding Ireti), and others.

Au-Dela Des Illusions - Côte d’Ivoire

In Au Dela Des Illusions (Beyond The Illusions), two men find themselves drawn into a world of crime and violence after discovering a bag filled with illicit drugs. Driven by a need for a different life, William and Jack are thrust into a world they are unfamiliar with, one that sometimes requires blood and destruction to escape. The film stars Paul Yves Ettien, a renowned Ivorian Internet personality; Salif Koné; Mahoula Kane; Albèric Gobo; and many others.

Nina Torres - Côte d’Ivoire

In Nina Torres, a television personality is confronted by a tense live call that threatens to upend her show. Nina Torres is ready to launch her television show; her life, by all measures, is perfect and highly celebrated, but all isn't as it seems. The film explores the extent to which a lie can go and how it upends an otherwise perfect life. The film stars Khady Touré (L'Interprète, Marabout Chéri, The Three Lascars), Anna Jamila, and many others.

Southern Africa — By Tseliso Monaheng

Kings of Jo'Burg

In the third season of the Netflix original series Kings of Jo'Burg, Veronica Masire (played by the incomparable Connie Ferguson) ascends to the throne her brother left behind and steps into a world of shadows, secrets, and supernatural reckoning. As the new ruler of Johannesburg's criminal underworld, she must navigate deadly alliances and family betrayals. But claiming the crown means confronting the dark legacy that runs through her bloodline.

The Mommy Club: Van die Hoofstad (South Africa)

Leandie du Randt steps into the hot seat for The Mommy Club: Van die Hoofstad reunion. With tensions high and tea still steaming, she's ready to guide the moms through truth, tears, and tough conversations. From mom-shaming to bushveld blowouts, no topic is off-limits. "I'm here to be the voice for the viewers, with heart, not judgment,"says Leandie. The two-part special airs on Showmax on Fridays, 27 June and 4 July 2025.

The Real Housewives of Durban (South Africa)

The Real Housewives of Durban is seven weeks deep and still trending across social media platforms, and the magnetic Londie London is back in the mix. Fresh off The Roast of Helen Zille, she's bringing new energy, post-divorce, and a whole lot of spice. "I'm here to rediscover myself and say what others won't,"says Londie, whose brief showing onReal Housewives: The Ultimate Girls Trip SA left tongues wagging and speculation flying high.
