African Inspiration Meets Scandanavian Design in this Luxury South African Brand

Inga Atelier is the luxury leather brand making big waves.

Inga Gubeka is the young South African behind the luxury leather goods brand taking South Africa by storm. Clean lines and simplicity are the hallmarks of the sophisticated leather accessories which have graced SA Fashion Week in the past.

Gubeka writes on social media:

"I'm just a boy from the village of Engqeleni (Eastern Cape) with a dream that some day my brand will be recognized internationally as one of the best luxury leather goods brand to come out of Africa."

Following this tweet, the goods at his store in Hyde Park, north of Johannesburg, were immediately sold out with the likes of South African celebrity Maps Maponyane stopping by to purchase some of his goods.

Gubeka teamed up with one of South Africa's leading banks and provided 120 of his leather goods for the dignitaries who were in attendance at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Among the attendees were none other than President Cyril Ramaphosa and the Minister of Public Enterprises, Pravin Gordhan. Gubeka had the opportunity of personally gifting one of his beautiful leather bags to President Ramaphosa who seemed visibly delighted by the high-quality accessory.

In what has been humorously described as "Cyril's tough economy" by South Africans of late, Inga Atelier has managed to capitalize on a niche market. There is a demand for locally handmade luxury goods whose quality is befitting of the hefty price tags and Gubeka has tapped into just that.

On average, it takes the young designer about five hours to produce a single bag with the stitching process being the most intricate part. Gubeka states that the stitching has to be "very accurate".

Here are some of Gubeka's bags below. You can visit Inga Atelier's website for more.
