Yesterday the City of New York, the office of The Bronx Borough President and HOT 97 kicked off the inaugural Global Hip Hop Day, with an insightful panel discussion with industry leaders. The event commemorated a genre that has traveled far and wide to influence artists on the African continent and beyond.
A new video from The Hood Internet highlights just how far the movement has come. “Forty Years of Hip Hop” offers a swift mashup of some of the most memorable moments in the genre’s history—in just under four minutes.
With more and more African artists breaking waves in hip hop, it’ll be interesting to see what the next 40 years will look like.
