Audio: Mo Kolours, "Biddies"

Half-Mauritian, UK-based percussionist and singer Mo Kolours' Drum Talking EP is rub-a-dubbed-out, Sega-inspired downtempo chillness. Backed by global beat detective Gilles Peterson, the single "Biddies" is a wavy, chant-laced, earth tribute to the future; a sound reminiscent of a beachy ritual carried on until the picturesque Mauritian sunrise.

Sega, a music originally improvised for dance, dirges and local religion by slave communities of Mauritius, Reunion and Seychelles, is the product of European and African influences that eventually spread throughout the South West Indian Ocean and is now a popular genre. Sega, danced without the feet ever leaving the ground, can be seen in this old footage.
