For their upcoming release, aces of crate-digging Awesome Tapes From Africa travel to Ethiopia to uncover an instrumental treasure. On his 1985 cassette, accordion/keyboardist Hailu Mergia bathed traditional Ethiopian works in a breezy layers of accordion and analog synth. If the reissue’s first single “Shilele” is any indication of Mergia’s power to soothe ears, mellow synth from the rest of the LP will make for a spell-setting throwback. Hailu Mergia and His Classical Instrument is available June 25 on LP/CD/MP3/Tape via ATFA.
