Places in Lagos to Have Fun this Weekend

Our weekend guide will put you on an amapiano dancefloor, take you to a lightless restaurant and munch on delicious Milky Way Oreo puff puff from The Yellow Plate.

Nothing has breached the penchant to party for Lagosians. In the midst of mounting national stress, there will always be an outlet to escape. This weekend brings good tidings in that regard. The good guys at Amapiano Left and Right are on our radar, and they always make good on their promise for a good time. Catch them on Saturday in their new venue at Quilox.

Other prospective big pushers are The Dark Room and The Yellow plate. Word on the street is that these restaurants are a must-try, especially with the latter’s much-talked-about puff puff variants that has gotten people talking online. Let’s get into it.

FDM Night at The Rooftop at Boardroom

Launched last week Friday, The Rooftop is the new restaurant by hotel and lodging service, Boardroom Apartments. It’s a nice, chic spot perfect for a night out or dine in. FDM stands for Food, Drink, and Music, and we believe it's an acronym that could stick.

Friday, June 23, 6pm

Venue: Prince Samuel Adedoyin, Ikate Lekki

The Yellow Plate

While serving delicious food in Abuja, The Yellow Plate perfected their delivery infrastructure which has become their selling point. Now in Lagos, they went viral recently for their reimagining of puff puff available in chocolate or milk way Oreo cookies. The textures might seemingly feel like a mismatch, but those who have tried it swear it’s sinfully good. Tip: try their milkshake!

Venue: 41a, Ologun Agbaje, Victoria Island

The Dark Room

Coincidentally, The Dark Room is a new subsidiary restaurant by The Yellow Plate. And while they are housed in the same building, their aesthetics are totally different. At first, teasers for The Dark Room were quite cryptic. "Why are there no lighting in the restaurant? How do you put food in your mouth? Are they kidnappers?"

It’s the first lightless restaurant in Lagos, elevating the lack of illumination as a dining experience. Sure, there are bound to be pockets of lights in the space (the bar, for example), but the whole idea is to get you to eat your meal in the dark, if that’s your vibe.

Venue: 41a, Ologun Agbaje, Victoria Island

Amapiano Left & Right

The amapiano takeover in Lagos nightclubs has been interesting to watch. Nightlife is being curated to cater to this irresistible dance music genre. Such is Amapiano Left and Right, storming every week on the dancefloor now at their new venue Chilpolos (Quilox Compound).

Headliners are AK Smuth, DJ Chucky, DJ Harmony, Special Stanley, Jerry Shaffer, to name a few.

Salsa Night at The Hook Lounge

New spot alert: The Hook Lounge had opened quite recently in March on the Island, with a grand opening that pulled in a cosmopolitan crowd. It’s the latest addition to the Lagos nightlife cache, already hitting the ground running with their weekly services like Wine Wednesday, Music and Cocktail, Happy Hour, and Sunday Brunch Party.

That said, their Saturday Salsa (we’ve heard) is where the fun is at. You don’t have to be a good dancer; there are instructors available to guide you through. Just come with easy, comfortable shoes.

Summer Shopping Party with Tele

Sponsored by Captain Morgan, men’s fashion retail platform, Tele, are throwing the ultimate summer shopping party in collaboration with other brands. Titled Vibe N’ Vend, expect to see brands like Class & Outlook, Crivel Watches, JeansDare, Metro Man, Tedo’s Creations, and VWH.

It’s not a coincidence that this shopping party is happening as Father’s Day happened over this past weekend. If you like what you see there, then cop it.

Rap Joint Lagos

You could live your entire life in Lagos without knowing that Rap Joint exists, no less if you live on the Island. That’s because the place is a hidden gem with a modest, unassuming air. If you are a hip-hop head or just a music lover, then this is your beat. Rap Joint Lagos is quite an immersive hub that captures hip-hop in its heyday, stocked with materials overflowing with '80s, '90s and 2000s nostalgia.

The place also features a restaurant with a wall of CDs. You can cool down with a delicious mocktail, after arguing about the feud between 2Pac and Biggie.

Venue: 4, Norman Williams Street, Ikoyi

Pussy Painting with Tribe XX Lab

Let’s quickly establish that it’s not what you are thinking. But here’s a primer on Tribe XX Lab: they are a creative and wellness platform geared towards women and youths. The atmosphere is quite quirky, and the crowd is a mix of everyone. Their Pussy Painting event holds this Sunday, a kind of sip and paint setup where vulvas will be drawn to destigmatize and spur conversations around the female genitalia.

The ticket fee covers drinks, snacks, and art supplies.

Ajebo Unleashed 10.0

It’s been a while since we put up a comedy show on our weekend guide. This time around, it’s the big occasion of Emeka Erem aka Ajebo marking 10 years of his comedy stand-up series. Flyers and billboards have been popping up everywhere in Lagos.

Ajebo Unleashed 10.0 is also more than just comedy. Ajebo is grateful to his fans for the support and goodwill all through his career. For the show, the award-winning comedian brings on industry peers like Kenny Blaq, Acapella, Destalker, to name a few. There will also be a surprise act.
