Places in Lagos to Have Fun this Weekend

With the last vestiges of summer upon us, groove with Niniola at The Good Beach and turn up with other Beyoncé fans at Club Renaissance.

Amapiano has taken over Lagos nightclubs. Niniola is arguably the only artist who was confident enough to embrace the sound or its sonic derivatives, the rich tones and percussion-heavy booms of afro house, before it became wildly popular.

Everyone remembers her 2017 monster hit "Sicker," produced by Sarz. But aside from how she’s squarely faced this genre, she’s also electric on stage. This Friday, she will perform live at The Good Beach. Tagged The Groove, which is befitting, Niniola will mash up her old and new songs as she entertains fans. "All Eyes On Me" released back in April, is a fine amapiano-leanin tune. It’s no surprise she’s called the queen of afro house.

Club Renaissance in Lagos

Since Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour won’t come to Lagos, why not create one over there? This is the premise of Club Renaissance, harnessing the power and unity of the Beyhive in Lagos, Nigeria and transforming it into a celebration of the album and ongoing tour. Organized by Xafro, it’s going to be a disco rave with also a fusion of Afrobeats, so come in your sparkly outfits and get ready to paint Lagosos in silver.

King Promise and Patoranking at W Bar

Aside from the continental cuisine you can find at W Bar and Lounge, the restaurant has been a great place for artists to headline intimate events. This weekend, it will be a Ghanaian and Nigerian fusion with King Promise and Patoranking taking over W Bar on Friday. While King Promise is just coming up, Patoranking is more or less a sonic elder. You should turn up.

Peppersoup Box

We always love new restaurants springing up in Lagos, which brings us to Peppersoup Box on the Island. Launched in June, 2023, the restaurant’s name is really on the nose, literally, frothing with steaming spices you can smell it from far away. For those who don’t know, Peppersoup is a spicy broth soup with chunks of preferred meat or whatnot.

Over at Peppersoup Box, there’s a variety to choose from, from catfish, turkey, goat meat, oxtail to assorted meat and seafood.

After Dark Friday with Chiby

Since leaving the South Social building that previously housed the famed South Socials parties, party organizer Chiby has been able to expand South Socials outside of those walls, and thus keeping the event alive. One of such offshoots is After Dark Friday, a monthly affair that is slowly erupting with its own competent nocturnal flavor.

If you are the type that loves a good Friday night out, Chiby’s ADF will have you locked in. Afrobeats disc jockey, DJ Voyst and Lamide will be there to bewitch you music.

Sunday at Ilashe

How Sunday at Ilashe became the go-to place for beach parties remains a marvel. It’s a private beach experience like no other, drawing Lagosians from both the Mainland and Island. With increasing media partners and sponsorship, it’s becoming a huge thing, with boat rides and other perks.

Off The Wall

Hosted by Simss the DJ, Off the Wall isn’t your typical party hangout. According to its manifesto, the event is for misfits, people who gravitate towards unconventional sounds and the non-mainstream. It expands the sonic palate, celebrating diversity of music that often remains unheard. So this will be house, dance, fiesta latino, and other forgotten 90’s sounds. If this appeals to you, then you should totally be there.
