From the opening night of African Knockout Championship to Lagos Mainland Festival, here’s where to go this weekend.
The opening fight night of the first African Knockout Championship is on Friday. The tournament is the brainchild of Kamaru Usman, the Nigerian fighter who became the first African to win an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) title in 2019. The AKO Championship will pull 36 fighters across Africa, hoping to crown champions in five weight divisions, from light heavyweight to women's bantamweight.
Elsewhere, we have our eyes on One Fight Ultimate (OFU). They just finished their welterweight challenge this past April in Lagos, and more tournaments could be in the works. Buckle up for this weekend in Lagos guide.African Knockout Championship opening
The inaugural African MMA tournament spearheaded by Kamaru Usman has a roster of high-octane fights for its opening night. Nigeria’s Segun Ogunnoiki battles Ivory Coast’s Sare Yacouba in the middleweight division. On the women’s side, Nigeria’s Jane Osigwe takes on fellow Nigerian Esther Ayodele. The fight cage has been erected at the beach. How’s that for ambience?

What makes the next weekend edition of Element House exciting is that it’s being headlined by South African D-producer-artist, Vanco. Vanco has carved a space in dance music and house, which drips with South African influences. He will be joined by Oluwabruce, Icey and Rudd.
