Prêt-À-Poundo: Africa Fashion Week New York — Day 2

This is about the Africa Fashion Week New York 2013 featuring designer Reuben Reuel (Demestiks NY), Ms. Ray Couture and Aliakim.

Africa Fashion Week New York's second day is on everyone's lip. As one of the hottest diaspora fashion events of this summer, they set off the beating heart of New York City's afropolitans. AFWNY has kept growing these last few years and continues to provide another flavor to the fashion world. On Day 2, we were impressed by the number of creative minds involved and the way the runway unfolded. The designers, once again, dazzled the audiencewith original cuts. African prints were the liaison between the three designers. Don't get us wrong, we love African prints but we had a bit of  déja vu — we'd love to see the designers take more risks with their fabrics. Among the featured lines were Ms. Ray Couture by Anthonia Raymond and Aliakim by Mikaila Brown. Our favorite was definitely Demestiks NY by Reuben Reuel who brought class and beauty with nice cuts. Founded and directed by Nigerian born Adiat Disu with her company Adirée, Africa Fashion Week New York (AFWNY) is a major event that focuses on re-branding Africa as a destination for luxury brands. AFWNY promotes a New Africa through fashion with talented designers from the diaspora. It's a real delight to have a beautiful platform like this in the Big Apple, where a lot of trends are coming from. After few years on the scene, AFWNY has demonstrated that they want to make a positive contribution by opening people's minds to fashion from the continent. Designers from Africa are more frequently being heralded as trendsetters —showing everyone fantastic and innovatie aspects of style far removed from "African fashion" clichés.
