Daniel T. Of Cosmic Kids Shares The 'African Standard' Mixtape
Daniel T. of L.A.'s Cosmic Kids blends vintage grooves with 80s synthpop in his new African Standard mixtape.
<p>Los Angeles-based spinner and producer<strong> <a href="https://soundcloud.com/danieltmusic" target="_blank">Daniel T.</a></strong>, of boogie-house-disco DJ duo<strong> <a href="https://www.facebook.com/CosmicKids/info?tab=page_info" target="_blank">Cosmic Kids</a></strong>,<strong> </strong>gives us a taste from his upcoming album of afro-disco edits in his new mixtape. <em>African Standard</em> is an hour and a half of vintage grooves fused with 80s synthpop tracks. It’s <a href="http://okayafrica.com/tag/talking-heads" target="_blank"><strong>Talking Heads</strong></a> meets <a href="http://okayafrica.com/tag/tony-allen" target="_blank"><strong>Tony Allen</strong></a>. <a href="http://okayafrica.com/tag/amadou-&-miriam" target="_blank"><strong>Amadou & Miriam</strong></a>, <strong>Segun Adewale</strong>, <strong>Bébé Manga</strong>, plus countless other greats, all featured on a mix that's guaranteed to make you move.</p><p>Daniel T. explained his <em>African Standard</em> mix in an e-mail to Okayafrica, "African disco and electronic funk have been a huge source of inspiration for me recently. The records in this mix are some of my favorites that I've gathered over the past few years. Two of the tracks in the mix are edits I made for Los Angeles based disco edit label <strong>American Standard Records</strong>.
