Here's An Afro-Caribbean Jam From Bush Tea

The Virigin Islands rapper shares her latest blend of 808s and unapologetic rhymes.

Bush Tea is a rapper coming out of the Virgin Islands who's creating some noteworthy tracks influenced by her Caribbean background and strong female stance.

Her sound blends stomping 808s with unapologetic rhymes and swagger you'll hear in this new single, "Fresh," which we're premiering here today.

"Fresh" is an addictive track that sees Bush Tea rapping about how on-point she is over steel pans and dancehall-meets-hip-hop beats. Basically, it's wavy island music—and we're here for it.

"I didn't want anyone telling me how to be sexy or what to say. I wanted to be sexy sometimes, tomboyish sometimes, conservative and abstract sometimes," Bush Tea tells OkayAfrica about the song. "And I'm so so happy to say that is exactly what I did, without anyone policing me. I was able to be open about the vastness of what we all are."
