Meet Tonjé Bakang, the Cameroonian Creator of Africa's Netflix

Tonjé Bakang's goal is simple: to provide African and African diaspora films to its subscribers through Afrostream.

DIASPORA—Tonjé Bakang is the Cameroonian tech entrepreneur who created Africa’s Netflix, Afrostream.

Bakang created Afrostream with a black audience in mind, following his disappointment at the lack of black representation in the films and shows offered by other streaming services.

His company's goal is simple: to provide African and African diaspora films to its subscribers.

Prior to its release, Afrostream already boasted 2,000 subscribers. While it was originally launched in French-speaking European countries, the service is now available across 24 African nations—and Bakang has plans to expand to many more.

Afrostream has partnered with major movie studios to distribute entertainment content and the company aims to produce original and independent films in the future.
