Former Kenyan 400m Hurdles World Champion Nicholas Bett Has Died

He tragically passed following a car accident Wednesday. He was 28.

Nicholas Bett, Kenya's former 400m hurdles world champion, has died Wednesday following a car accident Wednesday, BBC Sportreports.

Bett recently returned from the Africa Championships in Nigeria when the crash occurred in Nandi, northwest Kenya.

His history making moment happened in China back in 2015, where he became the first Kenyan to win a world gold at a distance shorter than 800m.

Bett was also a two-time African bronze medalist. His twin brother, Haron, is also a hurdler, BBC adds.

He was 28 years old.

Kenyans have gathered on social media to express their condolences for this tragic loss.
