Listen to Hailu Mergia's First Album In 15 Years, 'Lala Belu'

The legendary Ethiopian jazz musician once again shows us how it's done.

With his latest album, Ethiopian composer, keyboardist and accordion player, Hailu Mergia shows that a comeback is no challenge for a legendary musician.

The artist's new album, Lala Belu, is available for streaming now via Awesome Tapes From Africa.

Lala Belu is a transcending experience. The titles on Mergia's innovative album contain colorful combinations of electronic organs, groovy bass, lilting piano and futuristic keyboard sounds that can resonate through the deepest parts of the mind.

Mergia's early music with his band, The Walias Band, masterfully combined Ethiopian sounds and produced funk-jazz back in the '70s. Yet Mergia still manages to create the sounds of the future with Lala Belu. It is not just an album created for his loyal fans, but it also invites new lovers of world, alternative, jazz and funk.

As Mergia mentioned in an earlier press release, Lala Belu turned out to be for "a different kind of audience, playing with a different kind of band and working with a different kind of record company."

This album has six exceptional tracks that create a whirlwind of emotions ranging from mirthful to sorrowful to peaceful, all the way down to the last note.

Be transformed by the album Lala Belu, now streaming on Spotify and Apple Music.
