Last September, Awesome Tapes from Africa revealed Liital, the late Senegalese griotte Aby Ngana Diop's only album. Now, the label shares engaging renditions of a few of the record's tracks with Aby Ngana Diop Remixes. The cross-continental digital EP features mash-ups by New Zealand genre-mixing quintet Orchestra of Spheres, Australian-based producer Michael Ozone, and Brooklyn experimental electronic trio Black Dice. For their contribution, Orchestra of Spheres lock "Dieuleul-Dieuleul," Liital's opener, in a glass house as high-pitched effects run back-and-forth and Diop's voice skips through a wide roof of electronics slowly lifting for air. Ozone adds a trance-y aesthetic to Liital's title track, toppling the shrill vocals with electronic sizzles and zaps. The EP closes with Black Dice clopping industrial grinds and robotic effects on Liital closer "Ndadje," breaking it to bits beautifully.
