We'll never get enough of seeing powerful black woman on screen, and thanks to Lupita Nyong'o and Viola Davis we have more of this to look forward to.

The two actors will star as mother and daughter in The Woman King, a true story based on the legendary Dahomey Amazon Warriors—the all-women military regiment of present-day Benin who spearheaded battles against French colonizers.

The film will be produced by Davis' own JuVee Productions.

"The film is inspired by true events in the Kingdom of Dahomey, a powerful state in 18th century. It will tell the story of Nanisca (Davis), general of the all-female military unit known as the Amazons, and her daughter Nawi (Nyong'o), who together fought the French and neighboring tribes who violated their honor, enslaved their people, and threatened to destroy everything they've lived for."

Nyong'o is no stranger to playing fierce female roles. She's fresh of the heels of playing the "war dog" Nakia in Black Panther. The all-women army in the film known as the Dora Milaje—led by the powerhouse Danai Gurira—is also inspired by the Dahomey Women Warriors.

Last week it was announced that Nyong'o would play Trevor Noah's mother Patricia Noah in the upcoming film based on his best-selling autobiography, Born a Crime.

With the indomitable Viola Davis starring alongside her, this film is sure to a force, and another major win for black women in cinema. This is most certainly a story that needs to be told.
