The FELA! Tour Has Gone Hip-Hop


Legend Stevie Wonder, Kanye, and Nas have all stopped by FELA! on tour in the past weeks and hung with the cast backstage. What they had to say about the show? Nas: "very important work." Yeezy: "inspiring" (he also invited the entire cast to a Watch The Throne show). Stevie Wonder - oh, just harmonized with Fela dancer Jacqui Dubois on an acapella ditty (see below). The tour, now in Los Angeles until January 22, is headed next to Detroit (get ready to shake it Motor City!). Get tix here.

DJ Tunez Enlists Wizkid and Reekado Banks for New Banger 'Turn Up'

This one comes just in time for the holiday "turn up."

DJ Tunez is back with his latest banger featuring fellow Nigerian artists Reekado Banks and Wizkid.

"Turn Up" is a mid-tempo jam, that sees Reekado Banks taking the lead as he delivers the opening and closing verses as well as the song's catchy hook. Wizkid joins in one the second verse, adding slightly fuzzy vocals on top of Baby Fresh's smooth production.

University of Cape Town Names Memorial Hall After Khoi Heroine Sarah Baartman

The Council of the University made the historic decision of renaming their Memorial Hall in honor of the young enslaved Khoi woman, Sarah Baartman.

Yesterday, the Council of the University of Cape Town (UCT), led by its Vice Chancellor, Professor Kgethi Phakeng, announced that they had moved to rename the university's iconic Memorial Hall (formerly known as Jameson Hall) after Sarah Baartman, a Khoi woman who was taken from South Africa and enslaved in Europe in the 19th century.
