Charlize Theron's New Car Show 'Hyperdrive' is the Real-life Version of 'Fast & Furious'
The South African-born actress has produced the reality show for Netflix.
South African-born Hollywood actress, Charlize Theron, has come a long way from her Academy Award-winning role in the 2003 film Monster. In 2017, she joined the cast of the eighth installment of the Fast & Furious franchise as a cyberterrorist known as Cypher, who blackmails Dominic Teretto (Vin Diesel) into betraying the rest of the crew. According to Deadline, Theron, along with Helen Mirren, will be returning to the big screen once again for Fast & Furious 9 which will be released next year in May.
More recently, however, Theron has produced a reality television show that seems to be inspired by her role in the blockbuster street racing film. Hyperdrivewill see race drivers from all over the world competing with one another on one of the most difficult obstacle courses ever built in an abandoned industrial complex.
From Ford Mustangs to Lamborghinis, this extreme reality car show may not have racers leaping from one skyscraper to the next, but it's still pretty badass. It's the third show to be introduced by Netflix as part of its strategy to launch a number of "automotive-focused" television shows.
Twenty-year-old Stacey-Lee May, who is regarded as South Africa's "Spinning Queen", will also be one of the racing participants on the new show.
Speaking about her latest venture on Instagram, Theron said, "I've been wanting to get into the reality/competition TV game for a while and I'm SO excited to present to you a show I'm producing: @hyperdrivenetflix." She added that, "AND I got to drift with a fellow South African so that's a bucket list item I can happily cross off."
Hyperdrive will officially be available on Netflix on August 21st.
