Algerian beatsmith El Mahdy Jr. first caught our attention back in June with his electro-ritualistic debut The Spirit Of Fucked-Up Places via Boomarm Nation. Born and raised in Sidi Bel Abbess, Mahdy and his family relocated to Turkey in the 90's. He'd later return to Algeria to work as a French-Arabic translator followed by a stint in Burkina Faso. Nowadays based in Turkey, Mahdy is a rising player in the global bass scene, known to splice hazy electronic beats out of devotional samples. Most recently he's joined forces with Aïsha Devi's Swiss/French imprint Danse Noire. His new-label debut, the 4-track Gasba Grime EP, is due out June 9th.
