Prêt-À-Poundo: Loza Maleombho's Baroque-Inspired Collection

Read an interview and browse pictures of Designer Loza Maleombho's baroque-inspired Autumn/Winter 13 collection.

While spring is just starting, the fashion world is brimming with striking & astonishing fall pieces and looks. As statements pieces make their comeback for A/W 13, Loza Maleombho's trendy and colorful combination of kente fabric, rich bazin and lace marks the line's individual character. The contrast of solid colors and stripes in Maleombho's collection keeps the focus on a bright center — you don't have to dress up this attire as the outfit will stand out for you. Malheombo A/W 13 is an exclusive must-have collection, from stunning one-of-a-kind pieces to intricate architectural features.

Maleombho remains strong on her African textile influences, shaping her materials and fabrics from Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire into bold and original pieces. Another strength of the designer is her approach at maintaining a balance between masculinity and feminity. Our favorite piece is the cape collar, which begs: Go bold with statement pieces. We spoke with Loza about her new collection below.

Early 19th century/baroque meets modern urban fashionista

What do you think are the current trends for A/W 13?

I wanna say the trend of the Church. From Valentino and Alexander Mcqueen amongst others who are recalling the robes of cardinals, monks, nuns and priests as mentioned in Elle UK. You can recall that trend in our autumn/winter collection as well.
