UK-born Cape Town-based producer Jumping Back Slash returns with the release of his latest offering Put Your Fires Out, a brilliant 4-track EP available via Red Bull Studios. The maestro credits Cape Town's restful atmosphere with providing the inspiration for the project's sound, "I think the weather has been influencing my sound. It's been raining non-stop since I got here," said the artist in an interview with Red Bull Studios. The overall tone of Put Your Fires Out, however, is more energetic than you would expect from a production inspired by gloomy weather. The EP boasts skillfully sliced synth work layered on top of jolty, polyrhythmic compositions, and features some of South Africa's most innovative electronic musicians including Kwaai Diva extraordinaire Umlilo, experimental beatsmith Andy Islands, and Andre Geldenhuys of the talented Fantasma collective, all adding their own unique touch to Slash's heady craftsmanship.

The beatmaker also shared his views on the creative process with Red Bull, “making music is a muscle. Quantity is quality. Sometimes, you don’t have to stop to think. I hear all these musicians worry about inspiration but it’s quite simple really, the more you do it, the more prepared you are to respond and react. Just get into the studio and make something. If you don’t like, get rid of it. It really is that disposable. And that’s the one thing that I’ve learnt, to treat everything as part of the process, even if you don’t know what the outcome will be in the end.” Luckily for us, the outcome is an electrifying new EP.
