Lupita Nyong'o Joins Henry Louis Gates on 'Finding Your Roots'

Lupita Nyong'o's episode premieres tonight, and we can't wait to learn more about her family history.

Lupita Nyong'o will be a guest on Henry Louis Gates' PBS series, Finding Your Roots, tonight and we're intrigued to learn more about her family history.

The noted Harvard scholar as unearthed the family histories of influential people, including Ava DuVernay and Ta-Nehisi Coates, and the show shapes and reimagines what having a "national identity" means.

Nyong'o shared a clip of her segment on social media, where she finds out that she's a descendent of the most recent woman of whom all human beings stem from—mtDNA Eve.

"When mtDNA Eve was walking around, there were no human beings alive outside of Africa," Gates says to Nyong'o. "Everybody was black in the whole world."

"I predate race! That's dope," she responds.

Although it's important to take genealogy findings from DNA samples with a grain of salt, it's interesting to learn how one can go back in time to learn where they come from.
