Born in the Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly known as Zaire) and raised partially in Begium, Baloji (which means “sorcerer” in Chiluba and Swahili) struggled with his name in childhood, as it is often thought of as a curse in his culture.  But Baloji has managed to capture his native country’s thirst for life, history, and culture with his muisc  -  often rhyming over a combination of the old and new drums and instrumentation, he's developed a truly unique sound.  “Le Jours D'Après” is a reprise of the African independence anthem written in 1960 which pays homage to the musicians in that era.
