Babes Wodumo, real name Bongekile Simelane, filed assault charges yesterday against Mampintsha, real name Mandla Maphumulo, after he beat her and the assault was recorded on Instagram Live. Babes is currently in hospital receiving treatment.

According the the national police spokespersonVishnu Naidoo: "The suspect in the Babes Wodumo assault case has been arrested and is currently in police custody."

Mampintsha's abuse of Babes Wodumo has been known to the public since last year after being exposed in a controversial radio interview by host Masechaba Ndlovu. Mampintsha, who is supposedly retired from music, was a part of the South African kwaito group Big Nuz.

South Africans were outraged following the viral video of him assaulting Babes Wodumo and demanded that he be arrested. This particular incident has again brought to the fore the conversation around abusive male South African artists and how their actions often go unchecked.
