Nigeria is set to make their mark in competitive winter sports again—this time in the curling world—by becoming the first African nation to compete in their country's colors at the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship 2019, Konbinireports.

This will be Nigeria's debut at the Games, which will be held from April 20 to 27 in Stavanger, Norway.

T.J. Cole and Susana Cole of the Nigeria Curling Federation will be in Group C of the Games, competing against Australia, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Italy and Wales, according to the World Curling Federation.

The Coles are currently training in a top-notch curling facility in Denver, Colorado, with hopes that their ranking in this upcoming competition will land them a spot in the 2022 Winter Olympics.

"Team Nigeria is excited, passionate, and in high spirits," Daniel Damola, Nigeria Curling Federation president says to Vanguard Nigeria. "They are asking the country to pray for them."

This first is another example of the limitless pursuit of African athletes in winter sports. Revisit the stories of Seun Adigun, Akuoma Omeoga and Ngozi Onwumere—Nigeria and Africa's first bobsled team, Akwasi Frimpong—Ghana's first skeleton athlete as well as Simidele Adeagbo—Nigeria's first female skeleton athlete.
