This Story of How a Nigerian Couple Got Married 6 Days After Meeting on Facebook Will Lighten Up Your Day

No, this is not the synopsis of a new Nollywood film.

It takes some years upon years to find true love, but for this young, decisive Nigerian couple, it took merely a candid Facebook call-out and a time span of just under a week.

Chidimma Amedu, of Abuja was clearly over the single life and decided to put out an urgent call-out to any "qualified" women willing to marry him immediately. He sent out the message on December 30, with a strict application deadline for potential candidates.

Here's his message via BBC News:

"Am of age to and I am ready to say I do and am wasting no time."

Send in your applications - the most qualified will be married on January 6, 2018. Application closes 12 midnight, 31/12/2017

He then followed up with subsequent posts.

Am serious about this oh and don't say you did not see it on time. Good luck."

His message struck a cord with Sophy Ijeoma, who responded with a simple "Am interested, just DM me...lols," though at first, she thought the entire ordeal was a joke.

She quickly learned that Amedu, was not playing around. He swiftly replied to Ijeoma through a direct message, then they spoke over the phone. Two days later, he travelled to her hometown of Enugu—approximately 300 miles away from Abuja—to meet her in person.

Ijeoma says it was literally love at first sight.

"He is the most handsome man I've ever met and I liked him instantly," she told BBC Africa. "When I saw him for the first time, I definitely found him attractive, but what I didn't know was how serious he was about marrying me."

She knew he was serious after she took him to meet his family in the area.

"It was after we met the uncle and his wife, that I realised that this could actually happen and I wanted it."

Yes, it sounds like the plot straight from a Nollywood script, but we promise it's really not.

Ijeoma broke the news to her parents, and the two were married on January 6 in a traditional Igbo ceremony.

And though Ijeoma found out that Amedu was previously engaged, she wasn't worried. She claims that what she has with him is the real deal. "I don't care about that - when you see what you want, you go for it."

And there you have it folks: a match made in Facebook heaven (?), and a reminder that you never really know what you could be missing out on when you leave potential life partners on "read."
