You may know Derrick Ashong as the host of Al Jazeera English's The Stream, or from Oprah Radio’s The Derrick Ashong Experience, but a lot of folks know him from his successful globe-trotting band, Derrick N. Ashong & Soulfège. Back in 2010 we wrote that Soulfège combines light reggae guitar melodies with driving rock chords and heavy hip-hop beats, along with more traditional African music. The band doesn't describe their music as "fushion," but rather "Afropolitan." The animated short, Love Rain Down (above) was released in tandem with a track from their latest album, Afropolitan.
