Oluwatobiloba Amusan is the latest African athlete to see unprecedented success at the Commonwealth Games currently underway in Australia.

The 20-year-old Nigerian runner has become the first Nigerian to win gold at the 100m hurdles according to The Cable Nigeria. She is the first Nigerian to earn a medal so far at this year's games. Her win brings Nigeria's total medals to eight, putting the country in eighth place overall.

Amusan, who is the reigning American Collegiate 100m hurdle champion, finished the 100m hurdle race in just 12.68 seconds, coming out ahead of Jamaica's Danielle Williams and Yanique Thompson who earned the silver and bronze respectively.

Amusan is the third Nigerian woman to win a medal for the 100m race after Modupe Oshikoya who won bronze in 1974 and Angela Atiede who also won bronze in 2002.

Africa athletes continue to dominate at the games and we're delighted to be able to cheer them on.
