Last month, at the epic Roots Picnic in Philly, Nigeria's own Nneka performed alongside The Roots, Wu-Massacre, Vampire Weekend and many others. We've had our eye on Nneka for some time, and with her recent opening slot for Nas and Damian Marley on the Distant Relatives Tour it seems her career is in full blossom. Her voice is infectious, her record has been on repeat, and now, thanks to our ladies over at Society Hae (big up Ngozi and N'dada!), we get this great little interview clip live from The Roots Picnic. Here Nneka talks Nigera, The World Cup, Nas and Damian, and the paradox of having to leave home to be recognized: "One has to go on a pilgrimage fest before you are seen or realized in your own home."
