tayo faniran madingo afrobeats

We Listened to Tayo Faniran's 'Madingo' So You Wouldn't Have To

Just another day of taking one for the team.

In the midst of trying to escape the never ending rabbit hole that is the internet, we stumbled on this new song that's trending on Nigerian Twitter by reality-star-turned-afrobeats-artist Tayo Faniran.

The first runner up of Big Brother Africa 2014 had no problem making a name for himself by being an asshole. It appears he had no issue fighting with his housemates and just being straight up disrespectful—which the internet ate up during the season.

Anyway, Faniran recently dropped "Madingo"—which is your quintessential afrobeats song that follows the formula of pseudo-dancehall production (that I thought we left in 2015) and sexual innuendos that don't make sense.

The track honestly sounds like a bootleg version of Ketchup's"Pam Pam". The hook alone makes me want to throw a million side-eye emojis in his direction:

"Who that gyal with the biggest behind-o / I'm the one with the biggest madingo."

Really, though? Are we for real still on that hypermasculine, "let me tout my genitalia to bag a girl," wave? Let's also not forget the racist history of the term 'mandingo' in the States, and the mere fact that out of all of Nigeria's 250 (and counting) ethnic groups, the Mandinka/Mandingo people aren't one of them.

You tried to shoot the football in the goal, Tayo—but you missed by a long shot.

If you want to risk your ears from bleeding, listen below.
