Nigerian Designer Duro Olowu Shares Vintage Senegalese-Inspired Fashion Film

Nigerian designer Duro Olowu shares a short fashion film in support of his vintage Senegalese-inspired Spring/Summer 2015 collection.

Duro Olowu, the innovative Nigerian designer whose bold technicolor prints have been favorites of ours the last few seasons, has unveiled a new fashion film in support of his recent Spring/Summer 15 collection. Senegalese model Kinee Diouf stars as the face of Olowu's S/S 15 film, and her languid movements in the collection's gowns, A-line skirts, capes and oversized jackets showcase the structural genius and elegance of Olowu's pieces. The Lagos-born designer, who now calls London home, found inspiration for the collection's vivid patterns and flowing silhouettes after a recent trip to the Senegalese island of Saint-Louis, where the appliqued starched brocade used for the garments was made. Japanese film noir, 1940's pinups and the cover artwork for The Pointer Sisters eponymous debut album also acted as reference points for Olowu as he constructed the collection's retro looks. Watch the film, directed by Portuguese fashion photographer Luis Monteiro, below. A Unique Fall/Winter 14 Collection From Nigeria's Duro Olowu

This is about Nigerian designer Duro Olowu and his presentation during London Fashion Week for Fall/Winter 14 Collection.

Renowned designer Duro Olowu doesn't follow fashion industry patterns or offer a typical mainstream product. Typically, Fall/Winter collections feature darker colors and heavy materials, but Duro Olowu brought a profusion of colors and an explosive mix of light pieces to his recent London Fashion Week F/W 14 show. You can spot all his influences from Nigeria to UK and recognize his signature straight away. Duro Olowu knows how to perfectly blend different prints to create unique garments. The way he structures his pieces is essential, as he mixes the oversized and well-fitted look really well. He's definitely one of the London Fashion Week's highlight as his work depicts a clear direction and doesn't look like anything else. The collection is colorful and shows that F/W doesn't necessarily mean cold and monotone. We love the work and have developed a total crush on his capes.
