Anna Diop has been one to watch, especially since learning about the news of her joining Jordan Peele's follow-up feature film, Us.

The Senegalese-American actress will be on TV screens this fall, as she will play Koriand'r/Starfire in DC Universe's series, Titans. Watch the trailer below.

As this trailer has made rounds on the internet, it's expected that critique (and hateration) comes with due praise and anticipation. But for actors of color, more specifically black actors—and, if we want to call it for what it is, black actresses—the backlash is unwarranted and unfair.

Diop unfortunately was the receiving end of such harassment, as racist stans of the DC Universe comic book felt the actress is "too dark" to play the role of Starfire (an orange alien), and consequently trolled her in the comments of several of her Instagram posts—which have either been deleted or disabled.

Diop made a since-deleted statement on Instagram, which according to NYLON reads:

Too often social media is abused by some who find refuge in the anonymity and detachment it provides: misused as a tool to harass, abuse, and spew hatred at others. This is weak, sad, and a direct reflection of the abuser.

Racist, derogatory, and/or cruel comments have nothing to do with the person on the receiving end of that abuse. And because I know this—I'm unfazed. But for anyone out there who may not—I am here to remind you that whatever ugly and negative thing anyone ever chooses to say about you is always a reflection and revelation of themselves- it does NOT define you, and it certainly does NOT make you any less perfect than you are—Be you! Stay beautiful! Live breezy.

Folks on social media have also come to her defense, peeling back the layers of how such trolling does more damage than one thinks.
