It's been a minute since we've heard from BLK JKS. That's not to say the guys haven't been busy since they've left their label home at Secretly Canadian. A few months back guitarist Mpumi Mcata brought BLK JKS SNDSYSTM (a side DJ project along with drummer Tshepang Ramoba) to NYC for our Okayafrica Soundclash. Ramoba has also been raking in syrupy smooth production credits as Moonchild's trusty collaborator. But alas, down one member (frontman Linda Buthelezi) and up a new trumpeter (Tebogo Seitei) and saxophonist/keyboardist (Hlubi Vakalisa), a newly incarnated BLK JKS have new music for us. Accompanying an interview in today's Mail & Guardian, the band has released a never-before-heard demo track entitled "Nare," a ten minute experimental lullaby of soundscapes and instrumentals produced by Ramoba. Though there's still no news of any upcoming albums to report on, "Nare" is a much welcomed taste of BLK JKS' evolving sound. Listen/download the new demo below.
