Shortly after a military court freed him, Bobi Wine, was once again arrested on and charged with treason in a civilian court, reports BBC Africa.

The musician and MP, previously faced a treason charge in military court before they were reduced to unlawful possession of a firearm. Wine's lawyers said that the artist had been tortured and badly beaten when he appeared in court for the first time last week. Uganda's president Museveni denied such claims on Monday, calling them "fake news."

After being released by the General Court Martial on Thursday, where the charges against him were dropped, Wine was immediately taken into custody once again and taken to the Chief Magistrates Court, where he was once again charged with treason as a civilian.

His court session was aired live on local news station, NBS TV.

The arrest has caused an international outcry. Several protests have occurred in Uganda since last week in support of the artist, during which journalists have been beaten.

On Wednesday international artists and public figures, including Angelique Kidjo, Femi Kuti, Chris Martin, Brian Eno, Wole Soyinka and more, signed and released a letter condemning the imprisonment of the artist.
