The Hugo awards are one of speculative fiction's most prestigious prizes. The annual award recognizes the best in science fiction and fantasy, and this year two of our favorite Nigerian women authors are up for the prize.

Nnedi Okorafor, one of OkayAfrica's 100 Women 2019, earned not one but two nominations this year. She's up for Best Novella for her work Binti: The Night Masquerade as well as fo Best Graphic Story for Black Panther: Long Live the King.

The author took to Twitter following the announcement to celebrate, adding that this nomination means that all three of the novellas in the Biniti trilogy have either won or been nominated for a Hugo Prize (She won for Binti in 2016).

Buzzing writer Tomi Adeyemi, also a 100 Women 2019 honoree,is also nominated for her young adult standout Children of Blood and Bone, a New York Times Best Seller. The book, which will soon be made into a film directed by Rick Famuyiwa, is up for the Lodestar Award for Best Young Adult Book. The highly-anticipated sequel, will hit shelves this summer.
