This Is What Our NYC Concert With D'banj, Sister Nancy & The Compozers Looked Like

Last night, we shut down New York City's Lincoln Center Out of Doors with our Riddim & Beats concert.

OkayAfrica's summer concert packed-out Damrosch Park with the funk of West African beats and the rhythms of Caribbean carnival. Big up to LargeUp, our media partner.

London's eclectic afrobeats band The Compozers started off the night strong as they ran through spot-on takes on many new afrobeats—or should we call it Pon Pon?—staples from the likes of Mr Eazi, Davido, and more.

Next up, the legendary Jamaican reggae singer Sister Nancy captured the whole crowd with her classic '80s tracks. Once "Bam Bam" came on, everyone lost it.

The night belonged to Nigeria's Kokomaster D’banj, though, as he steamrolled through a high-energy set featuring live dancers, bringing girls up on stage, and flawless renditions of his many hits like "Oliver Twist" and "Fall In Love."

Relive the night in the beautiful black-and-white photos below taken by Ginny Suss.
