Back in June, Belgian pop star Stromae had to cut his Tournée Africaine across Sub-Saharan Africa short due to illness. This week, he's been making up on those cancelled dates by closing out his world tour with shows in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, the birthplace of his father where he will play the ULK Stadium on October 17. "Returning to Rwanda is going to be special, deep and really important. This is my origin - I will meet my family. I can imagine that it’s going be a lot of feelings and emotions as I discover my country," the singer tells Al Jazeera. His father, an architect, was killed during the 1994 Rwandan genocide.

Stromae's coming off a triumphant North American run which saw him sell out New York City's Madison Square Garden for a show alongside Janelle Monáe & Jidenna. Part of the proceeds from the Kigali concert will be donated to SOLID AFRICA, "a Rwandan NGO offering hospital beds and food supplies to some of the poorest and disenfranchised communities," a press statement reads.
