A few moons after Lagos and New York held their own, London will be hosting it's celebration of the godfather Fela Kuti and the release of Red Hot + Fela at the 229 Club. Joining the festivities will be a standout roster featuring Baloji, Olugbenga (of Metronomy), Afrikan Boy, Sam Duckworth (of Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly), Shingai Shoniwa (of the Noisettes), TY, Blak Twang, ESKA, Zee Gachette (Z-Star). Special guests include the 25-piece choir Goldsmiths Vocal Ensemble (GVE), some of the amazing dancers from the award-winning Fela! musical andstudent musicians from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance (formerly Trinity College of Music), the school where Fela enrolled in 1958 when his parents sent him to London expecting him to study medicine. Fela spent four years at the music college and also formed Koola Lobitos whilst there. All the acts will be covering Fela songs aided by the night's house band Dele Sosimi Afrobeat Orchestra — led by former Egypt 80 keyboard player Dele Sosimi. We've seen London knows how to throw a proper homage to The Black President, don't sleep on this one!
