Stream Sinkane's 'Mean Love' Via NPR First Listen

Stream Sinkane's new album 'Mean Love' (out 9/2 on DFA/City Slang) via NPR First Listen.

Two years after its release Sinkane's Mars remains a heavy staple in the Okayafrica offices. Sinkane (aka Sudanese-born/Brooklyn-based multi-instrumentalist Ahmed Gallab) has been gearing up all summer for the release of his follow-up Mean Love, a ten-track LP which he co-produced along with longtime collaborator and childhood friend Greg Lofaro. So far we've heard the silky smooth lead single "Hold Tight," the airy "How We Be" plus its dubbed out remix from Lexx, and most recently a distinctly ethereal-Sudanese bassline on "New Name." Speaking with T Magazine Gallab explained “Mars was an apt metaphor: I was a foreigner, an alien, in whatever environment I found myself in. It was time for me to look deeper into myself and make a more personal record. Mars expressed a lot of my African side, but for my new record, Mean Love, I wanted to get into my American influences.” Mean Love officially arrives next Tuesday (9/2) on DFA / City Slang. Until then you can stream the album in full via NPR First Listen. For more from Sinkane read Sinkane On Being The Musical Director Of ‘ATOMIC BOMB!
