The EFF has Dropped a New Gqom Track for Their Election Campaign

The gqom track is entitled "Signal" after leader Julius Malema's speech at Winnie Madikizela-Mandela's funeral last year.

Aside from long-winded manifestos (that not many read anyway) and attending rallies and marches, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have decided to dabble in the music space and get their supporters jiving as part of their election campaign.

Central to the new track is Julius Malema's infamous speech, at Winnie Madikizela-Mandela's funeral last year, that subsequently went viral. Perhaps the most rousing part of the speech was when he said:

"Mama, those who sold you out to the [Apartheid] regime are here. They are crying the loudest more than all of us who cared for you...Can we trust them or should we treat them with suspicion? Give us a sign Mama."

The EFF's new gqom track samples from that same speech and features the singer Ntando Duma and the well-known kwaito group, Alaska. The English and isiZulu lyrics also reiterate the party's calls for free education and increased employment especially of the poor.

South African's national elections are set to take place on the 8th of May this year and are predicted to be the most fiercely contested elections yet.
