The Voice Nigeria, is returning for a third season, three years after it was initially taken off the air. Many Nigerians took to social media to voice their excitement at the news, while others were skeptical. While the show's first season in 2016 was much beloved by fans and reviewers it's second season in 2017 was received poorly due to a mix of apathy, criticism of the show's production and many other factors resulting in the international singing competition not returning for 2018.

This time, the competition promises to deliver a bigger show than in its last two seasons and, from the looks of things, they intend to keep that promise with a long list of changes, from an all-Nigerian production for the first time, to new hosts.

The judges and hosts for this season's competition were announced yesterday. Among them are Nigerian singer and vocalist Waje who was a judge in the previous two seasons and Afropop singer Yemi Alade who was a judge in the second season. Both are returning as judges this year, with award-winning rapper Falz and Afro-soul singer and the creative director of Livespot360, Dare Art Alade filling out the remaining spots.

Actress and TV personality Nancy Isime, joined by on air personality and vlogger Toke Makinwa and actor Denola Adepetun will be picking up from IK Osakioduwa and Stephanie Coker who were hosts for the last two seasons, as this season's hosts.

The Voice Nigeria is slated to air on DSTV channel (Africa Magic) Startimes and terrestrial TV channel (AIT), amongst other leading television stations in the outside the country. Some of Nigeria's most prominent music talents, Johnny Drille, Chike, A'rese, Idyl and many others, were discovered on the show.

This season of the show will not only see the winner go home with a cash prize and an international record deal, it would also see increased participation from fans who will get a chance to win prizes.

While this is already looking to be a great season for The Voice Nigeria, this is also a chance for the show to redeem itself and live up to the hype this time around. And with the reception the season's announcement has received so far, this seems like a strong possibility.

How can I get on The Voice Nigeria?

Auditions are open to individuals within the age of 18 -50 years who have a First Bank account. To enter, talents are expected to record a one-minute video singing without a soundtrack, upload and fill out the Voice application form on the website.
