7 Emerging African Designers You Should Know
Through innovative strides and careful execution these womenswear and menswear designers are changing the way we see African fashion.

Amsterdam based streetwear label Daily Paper is known for innovation and culture forward designs that express individuality and taste within the streetwear scene. Its founders Hussein Suleiman, Jefferson Osei and Abderrahmane Trabsini are of Somali, Ghanian and Moroccan descent, which plays a major role in their diverse brand identity. Although Somalia, Ghana and Morocco are very different culturally, they infuse unique elements from each of their cultural upbringings to shed light on the first generation experience in Amsterdam.
Since their launch in 2010, they have collaborated with brands like Puma and have shot collections all over the world in places like Accra, Kingston and Morocco to introduce their consumers to positive images in traditionally Afro spaces. When asked in an interview with i-D magazine about how they remain authentic and appealing to a wide audience, they respond: “By translating African heritage instead of copying African heritage. The patterns you see in our collections are not 1 on 1 copies of African style aspects, but a reflection of our interpretation of it. By doing so it is less 'folklore' and more contemporary.”
