7 Emerging African Designers You Should Know

6. Tongoro

Senegalese designer Sarah Diouf is no stranger to the fashion world and was a magazine editor and stylist in Paris before taking on her brand Tongoro full time. Her inspiration to start her brand first came from reading Sophia Amoruso's Girlboss. She realized that if Sophia could build a brand from nothing to a 100 million dollar business with no formal training, why couldn't she?

Although she didn't want to label herself as a designer, she believed that her passion and sense of style would be able to propel her to shape her own African made fashion brand. Now multiple collections in and still 100 percent African made, Diouf wants to touch more than just the fashion industry and is now venturing into media with her new magazine, Noir. She believes that in order to shape change and perceptions of Africa, it takes people willing to act on the change they want to see.
